The Sacramento Kings might have found a potential trade partner for Kevin Huerter.
Trade Rumors Heating Up
Though the Kings have been relatively inactive in free agency, trade rumors continue to swirl, suggesting that a move might be imminent. Reports indicate that the Kings have expressed interest in Chicago Bulls’ star Zach LaVine, and it seems the Bulls have their sights set on Kevin Huerter in return.
K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago has reported that the Bulls are admirers of Huerter, indicating a potential trade scenario. Huerter, known for his sharpshooting, has been a topic of trade speculation throughout the offseason, and Chicago appears to be a likely destination. The Kings’ previous trade target, Alex Caruso, is no longer an option since the Bulls dealt him to the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, the prospect of acquiring LaVine or pursuing a sign-and-trade for DeMar DeRozan remains on the table.
Huerter’s Performance and Injury
After a standout first season with the Kings, Huerter experienced a downturn last season. His scoring average dropped by five points per game, and his three-point shooting percentage fell from 40.2% to 36.1%. Unfortunately, Huerter’s season was cut short by an injury in March, during which time young guard Keon Ellis stepped up and surpassed expectations.
With a guard lineup already featuring De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, Keon Ellis, and rookie Devin Carter, the Kings are expected to trade Huerter to balance their roster.
Potential Trade Outcomes
Despite the expectation that Huerter will be traded this offseason, the Bulls may not be the ideal fit for the Kings. LaVine’s hefty contract and recent injury history make him a risky acquisition for Sacramento. Trading for LaVine could be seen as a questionable decision, given the financial and health concerns associated with him.
DeMar DeRozan, although an intriguing prospect, does not seamlessly fit into the Kings’ system due to his age and playing style.
If the Bulls had more attractive assets to offer, Huerter might already be preparing for a move to Chicago. For now, the Kings must carefully consider their options to ensure they make the best decision for their team’s future.
