With three goals in his last nine international outings, the 28-year-old will be hoping to grab Gareth Southgate’s attention and prove he can step in for the England captain.

Watkins has been “outstanding” for Unai Emery’s club, so Bracey thinks he deserves the chance. However, he also asserted that Ezri Konsa, a teammate, is talented enough to start for the national team.

In an exclusive interview with Villa News, Bracey stated: “This is the season that Watkins should be getting minutes with England.” He’s been excellent, and I sincerely hope he is given other chances.

“Ezri Konsa has the ability to start for that team as well. The question of whether he will or not is quite another.

“I know that playing for England is a dream for him, so maybe he can take advantage of the opportunity. I would love nothing more than to see him play for England. But he is unquestionably competent.
