Joshua Dobbs, a recent free agency acquisition, already has a close relationship with one of San Francisco’s main wide receivers when he walks into the 49ers quarterbacks’ room.
During the 2015 and 2016 NCAA seasons, Dobbs, 29, played at Tennessee with 49ers wideout Jauan Jennings. The two teammates were close friends and members of the Volunteers’ elite.
Because of their parts in the exciting conclusion between then-No. 11 Tennessee and then-No. 25 Georgia in 2016, they will always be associated with “royalty.” Tennessee won 34–31 on the road when Dobbs and Jennings famously connected on a walk-off 43-yard Hail Mary.
Ever since, the pair has enjoyed the moment.
In Week 4 of the 2023 NFL season, Dobbs and Jennings met seven years to the day after their memorable play, at Levi’s Stadium, where the 49ers hosted the Arizona Cardinals.
Naturally, the two reunited and exchanged jerseys just for fun.
Now that they are back together as teammates, the two don’t need to wait for a rare matchup to say hello.
Even though Dobbs probably won’t play a much for the 49ers in 2024, his relationship with Jennings might be crucial in the terrible event that Brock Purdy, who is 24 years old, is unavailable.
Dobbs is new in San Francisco, but he already makes friends in the changing area.
