For the past several seasons, the Buffalo Bills have been in close contention to overcome their adversity and make it back to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1990s. Josh Allen, the quarterback, and Stefon Diggs, the wide receiver, rank among the best quarterback/wide receiver combinations in the NFL. However, despite the assistance of a supporting cast that includes James Cook, Dawson Knox, Dalton Kincaid, Gabe Davis, and Devin Singletary, the Bills have failed to get to the Super Bowl with these two.
Now that Gabe Davis has left for Jacksonville, the Bills require a wide receiver who can relieve some of Diggs’ workload. It is insufficient that Buffalo brought Curtis Samuel in from Washington. Someone who can ignite this offence when he signs his contract is needed. Not a lingering free agent, but the player Buffalo needs is in the draft.
The missing piece the Bills have been looking for is Adonai Mitchell. Mitchell completed his collegiate career at the University of Texas after a highly successful stint at the University of Georgia, where he won two national titles. He was a key player in Texas’s success in making their first-ever College Football Playoff participation.
However, to what extent was Mitchell good during his time in college? With four touchdowns and 29 receptions for 426 yards in his rookie season, he showed promise. He also had a 14.7 yard reception average. But due to a high ankle sprain, he only played in six games and finished his sophomore year at Georgia with just nine receptions for 134 yards and three touchdowns.
But during Mitchell’s lone season at the University of Texas, we witnessed an offensive explosion. Mitchell caught 55 passes for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 games. With each reception, he averaged 15.4 yards.
Mitchell is given goals. Almost everything thrown at him is caught by him. Xavier Worthy was able to have over a thousand yards receiving because he was able to take defenders away from him. Josh Allen and the Bills offence have been lacking Mitchell, a 6-4 physical monster on the outside. The Bills offence will be the one to watch all season if Mitchell is selected by Buffalo in the draft held next month.
