Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill were excellent at centre defence against Manchester City on Saturday.
Against the greatest team in the world, they put their bodies on the line, made huge blocks and tackles, and displayed excellent ball handling skills to move the play through the middle.
Even though they ultimately lost without a clean sheet, they received a tonne of accolades for their efforts. Much of that was simply an admiration of their celebrations following each significant action; it had nothing to do with how they played.
The emotive emotions from these two after each significant contribution at the back was in stark contrast to some of the truly pitiful efforts we’ve seen from some players at times this season. Football fans are dumb like that. We love to see players expressing that they care.
We’ve always stated that seeing athletes give it their all is more important to us than winning every game. That was demonstrated by the outcome of the game on Saturday and the response to it.
