Prior to the final week of the 2016 campaign, Ryan, 61, was sacked from his position as Buffalo’s head coach in 2015. He had a 15-16 record in his two seasons with the Bills, and he was left out of the playoffs both times. Ryan was the final head coach the Bills hired before Sean McDermott took over in 2017, even though Anthony Lynn served as an interim coach for Week 17 in 2016. In his rookie season, McDermott guided the Bills to their first postseason trip since 1999. During McDermott’s tenure, Buffalo has made the postseason six times, winning four AFC East championships.
