While injuries are never a good thing, they might present other players with opportunity. That’s precisely what occurred with Edwards and J.K. Dobbins. Week 1 saw Dobbins suffer a torn Achilles, so Edwards did not fill the backup role as originally thought.

Edwards was excellent in the role in certain aspects. According to Pro Football Reference, he ran for 810 yards last season, which is his biggest season total ever, and scored 13 touchdowns. But he only gained 4.1 yards on average per rush, almost a full yard less than usual.
