According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, Anthony Weaver, Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Line, has agreed to become the Miami Dolphins’ new defensive coordinator.
Weaver joined Baltimore as defensive line coach in 2021 and was elevated to assistant head coach/defensive line in 2022.
Weaver was the Texans’ defensive coordinator for one season (2020), until Head Coach Bill O’Brien was dismissed and his coaching staff disbanded. Weaver served five seasons on the Texans’ coaching staff and has also coached for the Browns, Bills, and Jets.
Weaver, 43, interviewed for head coaching vacancies with the Commanders and Falcons during the most recent NFL hiring cycle.
Head Coach John Harbaugh announced on Friday that Weaver will be a future head coach in the NFL and stated that he was a candidate to join Miami as their coordinator.
“Anthony Weaverโฆruns the whole defensive front and does a great job with the pass rush,” Harbaugh said in a statement. “He performs an excellent job with run defence. He is also my assistant head coach. He’s an excellent leader. He interviewed for head coaching positions earlier this year.If he gets that (Miami) job, I’ll be thrilled for him.”
Weaver, a former defensive lineman, started his NFL career with the Ravens in 2002 as a second-round choice and lasted four seasons in Baltimore. He spent his final three seasons with the Texans before commencing his coaching career.
