When former defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and the Bills parted ways in February, the team did not replace him for the 2023 season.
Instead, head coach Sean McDermott became the team’s defensive play-caller.
The Bills announced Bobby Babich’s promotion from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator on Tuesday. However, as Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN points out, Buffalo has yet to decide whether McDermott or Babich would call the defensive plays in 2024.
Last week, General Manager Brandon Beane stated that the organisation is open to whatever McDermott wants to accomplish.
“If [McDermott] feels he needs to put someone else in charge of calling the plays, we would do that,” Beane told Getzengberg. “If he says, ‘Man, absolutely, I can do it. I want to do it again,’ then we’d go that because… there was nothing that said me he couldn’t wear both hats.
The Buffalo Bills concluded the 2023 regular season ranked fourth in points allowed and ninth in yards allowed.
