Report: NBC Sports Bay Area first revealed 49ers assistant general manager Peters as a finalist for the executive position of Commanders.
Adam Peters, the assistant general manager of the 49ers, is one of the two external candidates whom the Washington Commanders are apparently giving priority to for the position of head of football operations.
The top Commanders position is set to go to Peters and Chicago Bears associate general manager Ian Cunningham, according to sources cited by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Thursday.
Furthermore, The Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala reported on Thursday, citing sources, that the Commanders intend to invite limited partners like Magic Johnson, David Blitzer, and Mitch Rales in second interviews with finalists Peters and Cunningham.
About three years ago, 49ers general manager John Lynch stated of Peters, “Adam has earned this promotion, which is a result of his hard work and dedication to the 49er Way.” “He has been a tremendous asset to our team and we look forward to Adam continuing to play an integral role in all aspects of football operations in our quest to compete for championships.”
Although Peters, 44, would probably prefer to stay with the 49ers, it would be difficult for him to decline a better offer elsewhere.
Washington, at 4–13, desires a share of the prosperity of the Bay Area. Following their Monday appointment of former Warriors executive Bob Myers in an advisory capacity, the Commanders have shown a strong interest in Peters.
While Peters and San Francisco are in the midst of a potential Super Bowl run, the 49ers assistant general manager will be spending some of the next three weeks elsewhere as the NFL offseason has already begun for clubs like the Commanders.
