Christian McCaffrey, 49ers running back, will miss practice this week to give his ailing calf more time to heal. Kyle Shanahan stated Tuesday that he is expected to practise next week and play in the team’s divisional round playoff game.
McCaffrey sat out the Week 18 game because the 49ers had already won the No. 1 seed.
The 49ers will practise on Thursday and Friday before having the weekend off.
Defensive end Clelin Ferrell, who exited Sunday’s game early with a knee injury, is unlikely to participate in the 49ers’ first playoff game.
“He’s going to miss a few weeks,” Shanahan told David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “It’s possible to get him back sometime in the playoffs.”
Safety Ji’Ayir Brown (knee), Tashaun Gipson (quadriceps), and cornerback Ambry Thomas (hand) are anticipated to return to practice this week. The 49ers also intend to open the practice window for safety George Odum (torn biceps) this week.
Jauan Jennings, a receiver, cleared the concussion protocol after being injured in a December 17 game.
Arik Armstead, a defensive tackle who has not played since December 3 due to foot and knee problems, is anticipated to practise.
“He’s doing better,” Shanahan added. “He looked terrific today, and that was the test, so we’re going to get him into practice Thursday. Hopefully, it goes well, and we’ll have him in a little bit on Friday.
Safety Tayler Hawkins will need surgery for a wrist injury, while offensive lineman Jon Feliciano is day to day with a back ailment.
Tight end George Kittle (back spasms) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles tendinitis) are doing better.
