Even though it would mean the world to New York Jets supporters to cap a poor season by defeating the New England Patriots and possibly forcing Bill Belichick to retire with a loss, an unexpected victory could have some unfavorable repercussions.
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who played under Belichick on his early 2000s teams, is in the midst of the worst season of his career. Vrabeland’s future at Tennessee State is clearly undecided. now and it is possible he will be traded after this season.
Vrabel is a quality coach and would enjoy another crack at the NFL. Coming home to the Patriots makes too much sense when Belichick is on the road, and such a move could be effective enough to lose the Jets even more over the next half-decade..
A loss for New England might inspire them even more to fire Belichick and start a new chapter in football history, in addition to the fact that it would move them closer to selecting Drake Maye or Caleb Williams in the 2024 NFL Draft. They might even abandon their ingrained practices and bring on an outside hire.
