Ambry Thomas shown his toughness in the 49ers’ victory over the Commanders.
On a conference call today, Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Thomas had a broken hand going into that game. He had every reason to sit out the game, but he chose to play with a cast on.
Thomas, on the other hand, is scheduled to have surgery on his broken hand this week. As a result, he will be unavailable for the season finale against the Rams. The good news is that Thomas is unlikely to miss any games other than that one.
“It would only be this week,” Shanahan added. “I believe they told me before the Washington game that he would have surgery on Tuesday and that he might be able to play this Sunday.” So, I doubt we’d risk it now in this situation, but that makes me feel very certain he’ll be available for our next game.”
