This weekend, the Patriots will be without one of their greatest defensive players.
The organisation downgraded Jabrill Peppers and Kayshon Boutte to out for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. Peppers will miss his second game in a row after suffering a hamstring injury in the Patriots’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Peppers was absent from all of last week’s sessions and did not play in the Patriots’ comeback victory over the Denver Broncos. He missed the first two practices of the week, on Wednesday and Thursday, but returned to practise on Friday in a limited capacity. Peppers was labelled as ‘questionable’ on the Patriots’ recent injury report, but it’s evident that he’s not ready to return.
Overall, Peppers represents a significant loss for the Patriots defence. After joining the Patriots in 2022, he’s having a fantastic season. Peppers has 76 tackles, two interceptions, seven passes defensed, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and four quarterback hits this season. After Devin McCourty retired last offseason, the safety has taken on a larger role in the Patriots defence.

With Peppers out, the Patriots’ secondary will be led by Kyle Dugger, Adrian Phillips, Marte Mapu, and Jalen Mills. Mills missed much of the week due to a concussion, while Dugger missed Friday’s practice due to illness. Although Dugger is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, he travelled to Buffalo. Mills cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol on Friday and was removed from the Patriots’ injury report.
According to the organisation, Boutte has been diagnosed with an ailment. The youngster was absent from practice on Thursday due to personal reasons, but returned on Friday and was removed off the injury report.
The sixth-round pick out of LSU hasn’t taken off as many expected. Boutte has two catches for 19 yards in four games this season. He saw no targets in five offensive snaps last weekend in Denver.
