John Stones has been added to Manchester City’s injured list after limping off as the defending champions thrashed Everton without Erling Haaland.
Pep Guardiola was enraged with officials after a Toffees attack was allowed to continue despite Beto being offside, resulting in Stones needing treatment.
As they wrestled in a hopeless tussle for the ball, the centre-back’s ankle appeared to be stuck between the tall striker’s knees.
The City manager stated Stones’ injury “doesn’t look good” after he was replaced by Josko Gvardiol after failing to run off the blow.
Before kickoff, Guardiola delivered an update on Haaland’s absence, as the Norwegian forward missed his sixth consecutive game for the world champions.
“He’s still not with the team,” the coach explained.
“He feels better with his bone [in his foot] but he hasn’t had one training session with us.”Unfortunately, December is jam-packed with games. January is a little less crowded. Hopefully, he’ll be able to rejoin us in January.”
As a result, Haaland is scheduled to miss Saturday’s match against Sheffield United.
City, who defeated Everton 3-1 with three second-half goals on Wednesday, will play Huddersfield in the FA Cup third round on January 7 before travelling to Newcastle in the Premier League six days later.
