Prior to the 49ers game last week, coach Kyle Shanahan said that the team is “concerned” about Armstead’s injuries.
Shanahan acknowledged his concerns on Saturday. Although I would say it’s more of a foot issue than a knee issue, we do believe he has a shot each week. Something that has caused him some slight discomfort. All I can hope for is a reduction in the pain.
Armstead has three games not played. He’s dealing with a foot injury that resembles the foot issue that caused him to miss a game due to plantar fasciitis last year. That kind of injury might be erratic and persistent. Armstead played during the playoffs last year despite dealing with it. In the three postseason games for the 49ers, he played 36, 37, and 54 snaps.
Interior lineman Armstead is a top-tier player. With a grade of 81.9 at Pro Football Focus, he is ranked 10th out of 130 eligible defensive lineman in the NFL. Armstead leads the club with 13 quarterback hits and ranks third with 5.0 sacks.
