On Tuesday, the Seahawks got some positive news: Devon Witherspoon, a talented rookie cornerback, might be able to play against the Steelers. Due to a hip pointer, Witherspoon was unable to play in the team’s game against the Titans. However, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll stated on Tuesday that Witherspoon was beginning to run and that his injury’s prognosis had improved since last week.

Let’s all cross our fingers since he just couldn’t loosen up enough to go. We enjoy seeing this guy play football, so I just want to see him play more.

Artie Burns, a former cornerback for the Steelers, has filled in for him. Burns, who has assumed the role in Witherspoon’s absence. In their 20-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans, he recorded eight tackles. After being written off as a bust at the beginning of his career, Burns has become a valuable member of Seattle’s special teams and a trustworthy backup.
Burns has given up six receptions on seven targets for 50 yards over the past two games. He is reducing yards after the catch and has yet to allow a touchdown. Burns has a rare opportunity to make a little statement to the team that picked him in a game against his previous team, the Steelers. At the absolute least, he is providing the Seahawks with the competitive reps they need.
After Burns, 28, was selected by the Steelers in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the team decided not to take his rookie contract’s fifth year because he had lost his starting position in Pittsburgh before the end of his stay. He signed with the Bears after they allowed him to walk. Burns battled in Seattle’s training camp to secure a position on the roster for the final two seasons despite suffering an ACL tear in Chicago.
