Tyreek Hill, a receiver, chose the Dolphins over the Jets two years ago. Shaquil Barrett, a pass rusher, followed suit this year.
Barrett said that he was speaking with the Jets when the Dolphins intervened and resolved the matter during an appearance on Zach Gelb’s CBS Sports Radio show.
“Up until the day I ultimately agreed to terms with the Dolphins, my agent was discussing with me the possibility of visiting New York,” Barrett stated. And they simply appeared out of nowhere. Although I was excited about the idea of seeing New York, the Dolphins seem like a more seasoned club. At this time, they have additional evidence. There are some excellent individuals in the room, including myself.
Barrett added that his family is able to remain in Tampa, where he played from 2019 to 2023, because of his position in Miami.
Barrett was cut by the Bucs on March 13 and signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins. The 31-year-old’s debut season with the Bucs saw him log 19.5 sacks. He might become the first athlete to represent three different teams in a Super Bowl and win.
The Dolphins would first need to advance past the opening round of the playoffs, of course. Barrett’s signing is a component of the endeavour to achieve that.
