Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff claimed that early reviews on the team’s 2024 F1 car have been really positive.
Mercedes concluded the season without a grand prix victory for the first time since 2011, with a distant second place in the constructors’ title behind Red Bull at the final race in Abu Dhabi providing little comfort.
It follows George Russell’s success in Brazil in 2022, giving Wolff’s team only one victory since their vice grip on the sport ended in 2021.
Mercedes dominated the sport from 2014 to 2021, winning eight consecutive constructors’ titles, but despite the team’s current decline, Wolff has extended his contract with them.
However, after making a mistake on a development route moving into 2022, the squad has underperformed and is now attempting to return to winning ways.
Mercedes W15 shows good indicators in the simulator.
Wolff has now disclosed that in virtual simulation tests conducted at the Albert Park street circuit by former F1 driver and current Sky pundit Anthony Davidson, the latest Mercedes, expected to be called the W15, has returned to its swaggering ways that propelled them to world championship success.
“He [Davidson] was driving Melbourne [in the sim] and he said, ‘The car feels like a car for the first time in two years’,” Wolff was quoted as saying by the Telegraph.
“Obviously I would love this to correlate to the track but we’ve seen in the last two years that this was not always the case.”
