Max Verstappen has declared his favourite Formula One championship year among the three he has won in a row.
After a brilliant and record-breaking year behind the wheel of the RB19, the Dutchman became a three-time F1 World Champion at this year’s Qatar Grand Prix.
It was perhaps one of his easiest title victories of his career, as he went much of the season unopposed and scored more than double the points of his nearest challenger, Sergio Perez.
“That’s why I believe this year has been the best in terms of performance.” The first has been the most difficult. “The middle one… is no longer the middle one.”
Despite the contentious finish that decided the conclusion of the championship in Abu Dhabi, the 2021 season was one of the most tense.
Verstappen also faced criticism when he won his second title, as there was some doubt about the
Verstappen: I put myself under a lot of pressure.
Verstappen said that, while he would like to see more competition at the top of the grid, he does not require it to perform well.
“For F1 you would like to see more competition, but for me, I don’t need any other team or like a team-mate to get the best out of myself,” said the 29-year-old Dutchman.
“I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself to always try to be the best I can, to prepare as thoroughly as possible.” That’s what I appreciate, and it’s the only thing I look at.”
