Casey Stoner Congratulates Francesco Bagnaia for Joining the Elite Club After His 8th Victory, Reminds Him He’s Been in Since 2011

Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia’s rise to the top of MotoGP has been nothing short of extraordinary, and recently, his accomplishments have garnered admiration from one of the sport’s all-time greats, Casey Stoner. Bagnaia’s eighth victory of the season not only secured him further standing in MotoGP’s history books but also earned him the respect and acknowledgment of Stoner, a two-time MotoGP World Champion. In a heartfelt message, Stoner congratulated Bagnaia on his phenomenal success and welcomed him into what he called “the elite club,” while also reminding him that he himself had earned a spot in this prestigious group more than a decade ago, in 2011.

In the world of MotoGP, securing just one victory in a season is an achievement worth celebrating, but to claim eight victories in a single campaign places a rider among the sport’s best. Pecco Bagnaia’s 2024 season has been a masterclass in precision, speed, and strategy. His combination of technical skills and mental toughness on the track has been evident from the start of the year, and his victory in the most recent race cemented his place as one of the greatest Ducati riders of all time.

For Ducati, Bagnaia has been a revelation, fulfilling the potential many saw in him when he first joined the factory team. His eighth victory this season came at a critical juncture, further boosting his bid for a second consecutive MotoGP World Championship title. This win not only underscored his dominance but also drew parallels to some of the great champions before him, including Casey Stoner, who also achieved legendary status with Ducati.

Casey Stoner, one of Ducati’s most revered champions, was quick to congratulate Bagnaia on his achievement. Stoner, who won the MotoGP World Championship with Ducati in 2007 and again with Honda in 2011, knows what it takes to achieve greatness in the sport. His words of praise carried significant weight, as few riders have reached the heights that Stoner did during his prime.

“Congratulations, Pecco! Winning eight races in a season is no small feat,” Stoner said in a public message. “You’ve shown the grit and determination that it takes to be a true champion, and with this victory, you’ve earned your place in the elite club of MotoGP. It’s a remarkable achievement, and you should be incredibly proud of what you’ve accomplished.”

Stoner didn’t stop there. He went on to remind Bagnaia that he, too, had joined this exclusive group of MotoGP champions when he won his second world title in 2011. “I’ve been in that club since 2011,” Stoner quipped, his message laced with both pride and respect for the sport that made him a global icon. “But now, you’ve joined the ranks. Welcome to the elite, and I have no doubt that you’ll continue to shine in the years to come.”

In MotoGP, joining the “elite club” means surpassing a certain threshold of victories that sets a rider apart from the rest. It’s not just about raw speed or technical ability—it’s about consistency, resilience, and the ability to deliver under pressure. Casey Stoner’s reference to this club highlights the select group of riders who have achieved multiple victories in a single season, with Stoner himself securing nine wins during his incredible 2011 campaign. With his eight victories in the 2024 season, Bagnaia now finds himself in the same conversation as Stoner and other greats who have dominated the sport.

For Bagnaia, this acknowledgment from Stoner carries immense significance. Stoner is often regarded as one of the most naturally talented riders to have ever graced the MotoGP paddock. His ability to win on a Ducati, a notoriously challenging bike to master, was a testament to his unique skillset. For Bagnaia, who rides for Ducati and is now aiming to replicate some of Stoner’s past glories, being compared to the Australian is both an honor and a challenge to continue improving.

Stoner’s message to Bagnaia symbolizes more than just a congratulatory note; it represents a symbolic passing of the torch from one generation of Ducati legends to the next. When Stoner won his title with Ducati in 2007, he became an instant hero for the Italian manufacturer, proving that the Desmosedici was a machine capable of winning against the Japanese manufacturers. His nine victories in 2011 with Honda showed that his success was not tied solely to one team, but rather to his exceptional talent.

Now, Bagnaia is carrying the torch for Ducati, leading the team in an era where their bikes are once again at the forefront of MotoGP. His success on the Desmosedici is a tribute to the groundwork laid by Stoner and those who followed in his footsteps. For Ducati fans, seeing Bagnaia’s rise to prominence is a continuation of the legacy that began with Stoner’s triumphs.

Bagnaia, ever humble in the face of his achievements, responded to Stoner’s praise with gratitude. “To receive such a message from Casey, a rider I’ve looked up to my entire career, means a lot to me,” Bagnaia said in a post-race interview. “He’s someone who set the standard for what it means to be a champion with Ducati, and to know that I’ve joined the same club as him is something I’m very proud of. But there’s still work to be done, and I hope to continue making Ducati fans proud, just as Casey did.”

Bagnaia’s response highlights the deep respect he has for the sport’s legends, but it also reflects his unwavering focus on the future. With more races left in the 2024 season, Bagnaia remains intent on continuing his winning ways, and perhaps even surpassing Stoner’s record of nine victories in a single year.

As Francesco Bagnaia continues to forge his own path in MotoGP, the parallels between him and Casey Stoner will undoubtedly remain. Both riders have carved their names into Ducati’s history, and Bagnaia’s eight victories in 2024 are proof that he is destined for even greater success. Stoner’s words of encouragement, coupled with his reminder that he’s been in the “elite club” since 2011, serve as both an inspiration and a challenge for Bagnaia to continue pushing the limits of what’s possible.

With Bagnaia’s eyes firmly set on adding another world title to his name, the 2024 season could very well be remembered as the year he truly joined the sport’s pantheon of legends. Whether or not he surpasses Stoner’s record, the camaraderie and respect between the two riders are a testament to the shared passion that drives MotoGP’s greatest talents forward. For now, Bagnaia can celebrate his eighth victory of the season, knowing that he has the full support of one of the sport’s all-time greats.
