Casey Stoner Praises Brad Binder: “He’s Just Getting Started

In a recent interview, two-time MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner shared his admiration for South African rider Brad Binder, hailing him as one of the most promising talents in the sport. Stoner, who is known for his sharp insights and no-nonsense approach, spoke candidly about Binder’s future in MotoGP, expressing his belief that the KTM rider is only scratching the surface of his potential. Stoner’s words carry significant weight, not only because of his own legendary status in the sport, but also because he’s been following Binder’s rise closely over the years.

Stoner has long been a fan of riders who are aggressive, adaptable, and relentless on the track. Binder, in many ways, fits that mold perfectly. Since his debut in MotoGP’s premier class in 2020 with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, Binder has shown a rare combination of fearlessness and finesse, earning the nickname “Brad the Brave.” His ability to extract performance from the bike in difficult conditions has caught the eye of fans and pundits alike, but it’s Stoner’s endorsement that stands out.

“Brad has a unique quality that sets him apart from other riders,” Stoner said during the interview. “He’s fearless, but not reckless. He knows when to push the limits, and he does it in a way that maximizes his strengths. I’ve been really impressed with how quickly he’s adapted to MotoGP, especially on a KTM, which isn’t the easiest bike to ride.”

Stoner, who himself was known for his ability to master challenging machinery during his career, drew comparisons between Binder and some of the sport’s greatest riders. “He’s got that adaptability, the kind of feel for the bike that you don’t see often. He reminds me of the legends in the sport, the ones who could win in any condition, on any bike. Brad’s that kind of rider, and he’s just getting started.”

Binder’s journey in MotoGP has been nothing short of remarkable. After dominating the Moto3 and Moto2 categories, he made a bold step up to MotoGP in 2020. It didn’t take long for him to make an impact, securing his maiden win in just his third race at the Czech Grand Prix—a historic moment as he became the first South African to win a MotoGP race.

Stoner referenced Binder’s rise and how it parallels his own. “When I look at Brad’s career, I see someone who has taken every opportunity and made the most of it. He’s always been an underdog, even when people didn’t expect him to win. But when you give him a chance, he doesn’t just take it—he runs with it. That’s the mark of a true champion.”

Stoner also pointed out Binder’s exceptional ability to handle pressure. “MotoGP is a pressure cooker, especially when you’re riding for a factory team like KTM. But Brad thrives under that pressure. Some riders buckle under the weight of expectations, but he seems to enjoy it. That’s what makes him so dangerous on the track—he never backs down, no matter who he’s up against.”

Perhaps the most eye-catching part of Stoner’s interview was his prediction about Binder’s future. Stoner, never one to throw around compliments lightly, said, “If Brad keeps going the way he is, there’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll be one of the best of his time. He’s already shown that he can beat the best riders in the world, and he’s only going to get better. He’s just getting started, and that’s the scary part for everyone else.”

This statement from Stoner echoes the thoughts of many within the MotoGP paddock who have watched Binder’s development. His aggressive riding style, combined with his calm demeanor off the bike, has earned him the respect of veterans and rookies alike. Binder has a reputation for being one of the hardest-working riders, constantly refining his craft and pushing his limits.

Stoner elaborated on this point, saying, “What impresses me most about Brad is his work ethic. You can see it in the way he approaches every race weekend. He’s always thinking, always analyzing, and he’s not afraid to make bold moves when it counts. That’s the sign of a rider who’s destined for greatness.”

Binder’s association with KTM has been pivotal in his career. The Austrian manufacturer has poured significant resources into its MotoGP program, and Binder has been at the forefront of that development. Stoner noted the challenges of riding for a factory team still finding its footing in MotoGP, but he praised Binder’s role in pushing KTM forward.

“KTM has made huge strides in the last few years, and Brad’s been a big part of that,” Stoner explained. “He’s helped them understand the bike better and has given them feedback that’s been instrumental in their progress. That’s the mark of a great rider—one who doesn’t just ride fast but helps improve the bike for the future.”

Binder’s loyalty to KTM has also been a topic of discussion, especially after he signed a contract extension until 2026, cementing his long-term future with the brand. Stoner was quick to highlight the importance of stability in a rider’s career. “Sticking with KTM was a smart move for Brad. They believe in him, and he believes in them. That’s a powerful combination. I wouldn’t be surprised if he delivers a championship for them in the near future.”

As Binder continues to carve out his legacy in MotoGP, Stoner’s glowing endorsement will only add to the growing buzz around the South African rider. With more races under his belt and KTM continuing to develop its bike, the sky’s the limit for Binder.

“Brad is the kind of rider who could dominate this sport,” Stoner concluded. “He’s got the talent, the mindset, and the team behind him. If everything clicks, there’s no telling how far he can go. But one thing’s for sure—he’s only going to get better from here.”

For MotoGP fans, Stoner’s prediction that Binder will be “the best of his time” is a tantalizing thought. The sport has seen its fair share of legends, and if Binder continues on his current trajectory, his name could very well be mentioned alongside the greats like Stoner, Rossi, and Márquez.
