June 22 holds significant moments in baseball history, marked by remarkable performances and historic achievements.

    1925: Pittsburgh Pirates’ Offensive Onslaught
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 24-6. Kiki Cuyler and Pie Traynor each hit a grand slam, while Max Carey secured two hits in both the first and eighth innings.

1930: Gehrig and Ruth Shine for Yankees
Lou Gehrig led the New York Yankees to a 20-13 win over the Philadelphia Athletics in the second game of a doubleheader with three home runs. Babe Ruth, who hit three homers the previous day, added two in the opener and one in the nightcap, tying major league records with five homers in two games and six in three games.

    1944: Jim Tobin’s No-Hitter
Jim Tobin of the Boston Braves threw a five-inning no-hitter, winning 7-0 against the Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of a doubleheader.

    1947: Ewell Blackwell’s Near No-Hit Repeat
Cincinnati’s Ewell Blackwell nearly replicated Johnny Vander Meer’s consecutive no-hit record. Brooklyn’s Eddie Stanky ended Blackwell’s bid with a single in the ninth inning, leaving Blackwell with a two-hitter in a 4-0 victory.

1962: Boog Powell’s Monumental Home Run
Baltimore Orioles first baseman Boog Powell became the first player to hit a home run over the center-field hedge at Memorial Stadium, a 469-foot shot off Boston’s Don Schwall.

    1982: Pete Rose’s Historic Hit
Philadelphia’s Pete Rose doubled off St. Louis pitcher John Stuper in the third inning, moving into second place on the all-time career hit list with hit No. 3,772, surpassing Hank Aaron.

1994: Ken Griffey Jr. Breaks Ruth’s Record
Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 31st home run of the season, breaking Babe Ruth’s record for most homers before the end of June. Ruth reached 30 homers in 63 games in 1928 and 68 games in 1930, while Griffey accomplished the feat in the Mariners’ 70th game.

    1997: Braves’ Four-Homer Inning
The Atlanta Braves scored nine runs in the third inning, including home runs by Chipper Jones, Fred McGriff, Michael Tucker, and Jeff Blauser, leading to a 12-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

2002: Luis Castillo’s Hitting Streak Ends
The Detroit Tigers ended Luis Castillo’s 35-game hitting streak as he went 0-for-4. Castillo was on deck when the Florida Marlins completed a ninth-inning rally to beat the Tigers 5-4.

2007: Miguel Tejada’s Ironman Streak Ends
Miguel Tejada went on the disabled list with a wrist injury, ending his streak of 1,152 consecutive games played, the fifth-longest in major league history.

2010: Jamie Moyer’s Home Run Record
Jamie Moyer gave up the 505th home run of his career, tying Robin Roberts for the most homers surrendered in major league history, during a 2-1 win over the Indians.

    2013: Francisco Rodriguez’s 300th Save
Francisco Rodriguez earned his 300th career save, securing Milwaukee’s second consecutive 2-0 victory over Atlanta.

2015: Pete Rose’s Betting Scandal Resurfaces
ESPN revealed evidence from a seized notebook confirming Pete Rose’s regular betting on baseball games during the 1986 season, further corroborating the Dowd Report and making it unlikely that Commissioner Rob Manfred would lift Rose’s lifetime ban.

    2020: MLB’s 60-Game Season Plan
MLB owners unanimously agreed on a plan for a 60-game season starting around July 24th, pending agreement on health and safety protocols.

    2021: Diamondbacks End Losing Streak
The Arizona Diamondbacks ended their franchise-record 17-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

    #### 2022: Shohei Ohtani’s Dual Milestones
One day after achieving a personal best of 8 RBIs, Shohei Ohtani set another record on the mound with 13 strikeouts in 8 scoreless innings, leading to a 5-0 victory over Kansas City.
