PARIS (AP) — The French tennis organization put off holding a service to observe Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros this year, since he has said this could not really be his last debut at the competition he has won a record multiple times.

Competition chief Amélie Mauresmo said Sunday, Day 1 of the dirt court Huge homerun occasion, that Nadal let authorities in on he would have rather not shut the entryway on a return before he told the world that at a pre-competition news gathering.

“As you can envision, we had something made arrangements for him. In any case, … since he couldn’t say whether it will be his last Roland Garros or not, he needs to leave the entryway open perhaps to return one year from now as a player. So we won’t push him, clearly, to do anything,” Mauresmo said.

“It’s his choice when he needs to have a legitimate service, a legitimate farewell, an appropriate goodbye. So we won’t do it this year. That is his desire,” she proceeded. “Also, despite the fact that we were prepared to press the button assuming something occurs, we clearly will regard what he needs and ensure we are prepared at whatever point he believes he maintains that should make it happen. Not long from now; one year from now; whenever he needs.”
