Buffalo, New York (AP) Josh Allen’s vote of support, along with a desire for continuity, resulted in Joe Brady taking over as the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator on a full-time basis.
The decision was revealed on Sunday, less than a week after Buffalo’s season ended with a 27-24 loss to Kansas City in the divisional playoffs.
Brady finished the season as the Bills’ temporary coordinator after Ken Dorsey was sacked in mid-November.
The Bills’ offence improved in the final seven regular-season and two playoff games under Brady, with a renewed emphasis on the rushing game. Brady also expanded the passing attack by creating secondary receiving threats like rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid and second-year receiver Khalil
The decision came after the Bills conducted a brief interview process with Brady last week. Brady also interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons’ head coaching position, which has since been filled by Raheem Morris.
On Tuesday, Brady’s coach, Sean McDermott, praised his communication and collaborative skills.
General manager Brandon Beane stated that Brady “deserves serious consideration for this job.”
And Brady already had Allen’s support.
“I’d really embrace it. I adore Joe. “I love what he brings to the team,” Allen said Monday at an end-of-season press conference. “I think we got back to some simpler concepts, did simple better with him.”
This is Brady’s second shot as an NFL coordinator, having previously served in the same job with the Carolina Panthers in 2020-21. He was fired by Carolina one month before the completion of the 2021 season.
The Bills hired Brady as quarterbacks coach the following season.
The 34-year-old rose to popularity while serving as Ed Orgeron’s passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at LSU. Brady received the Broyles Award as college football’s finest assistant in 2019, following the Tigers’ 15-0 national championship win under Joe Burrow.
McDermott now has an opening on his staff for a top defensive assistant coach after Eric Washington resigned to become the Chicago Bears’ defensive coordinator. Washington served as Buffalo’s assistant.
