Mike Tomlin is among the NFL’s longest-tenured head coaches. But he may be ready to leave the Pittsburgh Steelers.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter spoke with ESPN Monday on the status of numerous NFL coaches ahead of the busy “Black Monday.” The reporter provided some fascinating facts about Tomlin.
“He has a year left on his deal. And others in the league feel Mike Tomlin will eventually decide to take some time off, as Sean Payton did. Consider taking a year off. “We’ll see if that’s something on his mind,” Schefter stated.
Schefter even named the Commanders and Chargers as teams that could be interested in Tomlin if coach becomes available.
Tomlin has been Steelers’ head coach since 2007. He won a Super Bowl in his second season and guided the team to another one in his fourth year. The Steelers have never lost a game under Tomlin, which is a credit to his coaching abilities. However, the team’s fan base has grown dissatisfied with the team’s ineffective offence and inability to win playoffs games; they have not won a playoff game since 2017.
Many Steelers supporters are dissatisfied with Tomlin, which leaves him undervalued. If Tomlin, 51, became available, he would be hired immediately, according to Schefter.
