In Week 17, Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders lost again, this time to the San Francisco 49ers. McLaurin saw the parallels between the 49ers and Commanders as he was leaving the field.
Sadly for Washington, none of those parallels gave the Commanders a favorable impression. According to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post, McLaurin knows what makes the 49ers successful and is optimistic that he will soon experience the same in his career.
You want to be a part of something that is well-maintained and in which you are excelling. They have excellent employees. They have excellent players. The 49ers seem to enjoy playing together, as McLaurin observed. You can see why they enjoy the level of success they do. You have to give them credit for assembling that squad and for the players’ on-field performance.
“I’m just focused on myself, my world, and my journey, and I’m going to keep working to be the best player I can be. Hopefully I can be a part of something like that,” McLaurin declared
In 2019, the Commanders selected McLaurin in the draft, back when they were the Redskins. Washington has only once advanced to the playoffs since his arrival. In 2020, they lost in the Wild Card Round. When McLaurin was on the team, their best record was 8-8.
But it hasn’t been the wide receiver’s fault. McLaurin had made 78 appearances for the squad as of Week 17. 368 receptions for 5,166 yards and 24 touchdowns have been made by him. McLaurin currently holds the ninth-highest yardage among all Washington wide receivers.
San Francisco left and made a trade for a club that won the Super Bowl. The 49ers are obviously focused on winning. Terry McLaurin expects to quickly develop a solid foundation in the NFL, as he hasn’t done much of that with the Commanders.
