Jack Grealish has revealed how he prepares for Manchester City games, including the daily diet he consumes before games.
The 28-year-old has been at the Etihad Stadium since a £100 million transfer from childhood club Aston Villa in the summer of 2021.
The move has been a big success for the aggressive midfielder, who was part of City’s treble-winning group last season, which swept all before them.
He has 14 goals in 108 outings for City and is presently with the first-team group in Saudi Arabia as the Blues attempt to win the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup.
And he has now revealed how he prepares for games under Guardiola, including his pre-match food.
Grealish was asked how he prepares for matches in an interview ahead of Amazon’s schedule of Christmas fixtures by recently retired custodian Ben Foster.
During that conversation, the England star revealed the very common British meal he eats before games, and it’s an absolute classic that will have been a staple for many of us at some point.
It’s, of course, beans on toast.
When asked how he feels an hour before kickoff, Grealish replied, “You can do whatever you want, the manager is so chill.” In his thoughts, he thinks, ‘you do everything you need to do to make sure you’re ready as soon as you go onto the pitch,’ so anyone would tell you I just eat when I’m hungry.
“You know some people have a set time, exact food they’ve had for years – me, sometimes I just eat beans on toast, just whatever.”
Grealish’s preferred matchday meal isn’t his only one, with the winger previously admitting he enjoys a cheat meal after games.
Foster answered by asking him what he is like before games to see if he is any different.
“So we’re about to walk down into the tunnel, game starts in 10 minutes – is this the point for you where it starts to get real?” he asked. Do you begin to consider the game and what you wish to do?”
However, Grealish appears to be extremely relaxed before matches begin.
“You know what I’m actually so chilled about,” he replied. I’m not a crazy overthinker. I’m just fairly relaxed before games, but I think everyone has their own ways of getting into a zone.”
